Egypt's Endless Attractions
By Mary Elisabeth Pitz
Cairo is more, much more than the capital of Egypt. It's the gateway to 5,000 years of culture. While Cairo continually changes, it blissfully remains the same.
Perhaps the magic in Cairo is in the layering of cultures, the seemingly infinite capacity of this city to absorb cultures (Pharaonic, Greek, Roman, Christian, Coptic, and Islamic) for more than 50 centuries.
Clearly, the ability to absorb almost opposite cultures is at the core of the intrinsically exotic character of Cairo and sets it apart from other Mediterranean cities.
The sharp contrasts of Cairo tantalize and intrigue. Bright neon signs that blink. A camel market that makes you feel you could be any century. Palm trees and new Mercedes.
The centuries old beauty of the sun setting over the legendary Nile River.
Cairo is Egypt and Egypt spells pyramids. A first visit, not even multiple return visits, can be considered complete without visiting the majestic and ageless pyramids. © JAX FAX Travel Marketing Magazine
